Perhaps the most fun part of any decorating project is putting the finishing touches on it with accessories. This is where you can really have fun buying those items that reflect your tastes and personality. Below are 7 accessories that you might consider for your country decorating project.
1. Baskets. You can find baskets in all shapes, sizes, colors and price ranges. Baskets are perfect for any room and they can come in handy for a bit of extra storage. In the kitchen you can hang them from beams or put them on the tops of the cabinets. In the bathroom, they can be used to hold rolled up towels. In the bedroom they come in handy to store makeup, jewelry and "pocket items". In the living room use them stacked on shelves or in an entertainment unit as catch alls.
2. Mixing bowls. Pottery mixing bowls and a wonderful country item and look great displayed above your kitchen cabinets, on the counters or stacked in your bakers rack. Show them off in your china cabinet or use small ones in your bathroom for soaps.
3. Vintage signs. Vintage signs can be fun to collect and also go great with your country decorating. You can find them for reasonable prices if you look hard enough and they make great conversation pieces. Vintage signs can be used to decorate any room but watch out - you might get bit by the collecting bug and find yourself out looking for signs every spare moment!
4. Pantry Boxes. Another great country item, pantry boxes make great decorative pieces. I prefer ones that have a bit of old paint on them but if you want antique ones they can be quite expensive. Luckily there are plenty of reproductions that look just as nice without the price.
5. Wooden bowls. Wooden bowls add great texture to your country décor and can be used as centerpieces in the kitchen, dining room and living room. Fill them with fruit and you have a functional and beautiful display.
6. Decoys. Duck or bird decoys are fun to collect and can look great displayed around a country home. Show them off in groupings on your fireplace mantel, on shelves, in your entertainment center, above your cabinets and anywhere else you want.
7. Tinware. Tin sconces, lights, candelabras and other items make a great country display that can also be functional. Consider a hanging punched tin chandelier in the dining room, a punched tin pie safe in the kitchen and some tin sconces and candleholders in the living room. Tin molds can be hung for decorations on the walls and the miniature ones could be used to hold decorative soaps in the bathroom.
Accessories can add the finishing touches to your country decorating projects and, if you buy vintage items, it can be fun to scour the antique shops or look for bargains at yard sales. For those items that you can't afford or find, there are plenty of reproduction pieces to fit the bill.
